RBT Job Description
Description of Basic Functions and Responsibilities: A Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) performs a variety of activities in support of instructional programs for students, and assists teachers and staff in the implementation of programs and materials to enhance student learning. The RBT is an instructional assistant who has completed the coursework and passed the RBT exam and works directly with and is supervised by the District BCBA. The RBT is primarily responsible for the direct implementation of behavior plans, analytic techniques, and evidenced-based practices.
Essential Job Functions:
● Direct implementation of behavior plans related to skill acquisition and behavior reduction
● Respond to behavioral incidents when a student is engaging in challenging behavior
● Utilizes Safety Care Certification to respond to behavioral incidents
● Works with a caseload of students designated by IEPs or the BCBA
● Implements individualized instructional programs (such as discrete trial training, naturalistic teaching, social skills development, pivotal response training, behavior plans, etc.) with students in small group settings, 1:1 settings, or in the classroom setting
● Prepares materials necessary for implementing individualized behavior program or curriculum accommodations and modifications
● Supports students in the transition to general education through the use of inclusion support techniques
● Consults with classroom teachers about upcoming assignments and necessary accommodations and modifications for students
● Collects progress data (daily, weekly, etc.) on assigned students and reports on that data to the BCBA and team members
● In collaboration with the BCBA, models techniques and procedures for staff
● In collaboration with the BCBA, assists with staff training on techniques to address student behavior needs
Other functions:
● Performs other job -related duties as assigned by the BCBA and may assist other personnel required for the purpose of supporting the student in the completion of their work activities
● Provides first-aid and non-medical assistance (e.g. changing diapers and clothing, etc.) for the purpose of providing appropriate care for the student
● Collaborate with parents, team members, and administration to implement strategies for positive student behavior
● Maintain professional competence through participation in in-service education activities as provided by the district, state, consultants, or BCBA professional growth activities
